Essentials needed for people starting independent living
A new program has just been established in Alice Springs, aiming to reduce homelessness and they are seeking household items as donations. This is being achieved by building the capacity and skills of people, through providing medium to long term (12-18 months) transitional accommodation in a supportive community environment.
The Program supports people to develop the capacity and skills needed to live independently, and have access to safe, secure and affordable housing at the end of the Program.
The Program is targeted towards two groups: single older women and parents with young families. These people are currently either homeless, or on low income and unable to afford market rent.
You can help support this important Program by providing the basic essentials people need when moving into new accommodation.
Items needed include:
- Bedding and towels including sheets (all sizes), quilts, mattress protectors, blankets, bath towels, and new pillows
- Kitchen essentials including cutlery, crockery
- Washing powder
- Baby essentials including prams, cots, cot mattresses and toys
- Toiletries such as soap, body wash, hand sanitizer and feminine hygiene products
