Bringing light to the Outback

We love that the donations we coordinate come in all shapes and sizes. Each one of them making a positive difference to others. Some days it’s about small everyday items, such as the personal hygiene products people often take for granted until unexpected hardship means going without. On other days, it’s about, well, portable airstrip lights that make night landings possible for emergency services in Queensland’s far western desert region!

The donation of the battery-powered lights, along with other safety items, was made possible by our great supporters and very good friends, the Road Boss Rally.

The equipment was to play a vital part in enabling the dedicated Birdsville Clinic staff to support the Royal Flying Doctor Service when needing to land at night on remote airstrips. These landing places may be on isolated properties, in the middle of the desert, or on infrequently used roads.

The donated lights and equipment were soon helping save lives. Not long after their arrival, they were put into action when a motorbike rider suffered serious injuries in an accident on a remote station. The RFDS were able to land safely at night and then treat and stabilise him, ready to be flown to Adelaide for further treatment.

Life and travel in the outback is tough and when someone is involved in an accident or medical emergency, getting the urgent help they need is crucial and made so much more difficult at night, but now flying out will be safer and possible 24 hours a day.’

GIVIT FOUNDER, JULIETTE WRIGHT OAM, WAS THRILLED TO GET BEHIND THIS ROAD BOSS RALLY DONATION.
