Donation of iPads to refugees

GIVIT partners with numerous charities across the country, who support the health and well-being of refugees, whether newly arrived or working to build their lives in Australia. To coincide with National Refugee Week, we were delighted to coordinate a request for two iPads made by the Red Cross in the ACT. They reached out to GIVIT to support a single mother and one of her sons, refugees from Afghanistan, both without speech. The request was to help the pair, supported by the Red Cross Humanitarian Settlement Program, to quickly get to grips with Australian sign language (Auslan).

The gift was possible thanks to a generous $10 000 donation made by John James Foundation, a healthcare charity assisting the people of Canberra and beyond.

The John James Foundation CEO, Joe Roff, was gratified by how their donation fast-tracked this specific request, “Through partnering with GIVIT, the Foundation has provided this family with the tools they need to start a new chapter in their lives. Communication is at the core of everything we do as people, and we are thrilled to have contributed in a small way to something that will change their lives forever.”
