Donations flowing to flood-impacted communities across NSW

GIVIT coordinating donations and offers of assistance to help people affected by severe storms and flooding

GIVIT is working closely with the New South Wales Government to assist people and communities affected by floods across the state. As the Government's donation partner, GIVIT is managing donations of money, items, services and volunteering during recovery via the Severe Storms and Flooding Appeal.

Flood donations already providing relief across NSW

Donate money to NSW floods victimsThe community of South Arm, west of Macksville, was cut off last week and desperately needed supplies. Nambucca Valley Council contacted GIVIT for urgent assistance. They requested $3,000 worth of grocery vouchers and $3,000 worth of fuel vouchers to provide to local residents who were, in that moment, still stranded.

GIVIT immediately met this request thanks to the incredible response we've had from big-hearted Aussies. Our team called the local grocery store and fuel station to buy the vouchers, then council worked with NSW SES to distribute the vouchers to locals in need. The vouchers were given out within hours of the request from the council.

GIVIT is ready to help many, many more people and communities affected by these devastating floods, GIVIT is working with the New South Wales State Government and support organisations on the ground as they assess need and advise what critical and immediate material support is required.

Once requests are received, we're tapping into public generosity to meet critical needs, and we can only do that thanks to your generous support. In times of adversity, Australians dig deep, and this time around is no different. Words cannot describe the outpouring of generosity we have seen in the past week.

Australian companies are stepping up, too. We're thrilled that Coles has pledged up to $1 million to support flood-affected communities, with shoppers able to donate at registers in-store. NAB has also pledged up to $200,000 to our Severe Storms and Flooding Appeal - customers are able to donate in branches or via internet banking.

Unrequested donations hinder recovery

GIVIT’s NSW Manager, Scott Barrett, is urging people to donate that smart way, through GIVIT, and not send unrequested donations or goods.

“Please do not bring unrequested donations into the impacted areas, or donations which can be bought locally. We want to make sure local organisations aren’t inundated with donations they don’t need, by encouraging people to donate the smart way through our online Severe Storms and Flooding Appeal."

How you can help

Instead of donating unsolicited items, please consider donating money, which will allow us to work with frontline organisations to buy exactly what's needed.

100% of donated money GIVIT receives for the Severe Storms and Flooding Appeal will be used to purchase essential items and services needed by people and communities impacted. To support local businesses and the economic recovery of affected communities, wherever possible, GIVIT purchases locally.
