E-waste given new life to help others in the ACT
Pre-loved electronic devices, such as desktop computers, laptops and mobile phones, that would normally be recycled as e-waste are being refurbished to support workers and students impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you have pre-loved, good quality IT equipment that you no longer use or were considering recycling as e-waste, please consider donating!
2020 has brought significant challenges for the Canberra community – from bushfires, to severe weather events and now, the impacts of COVID-19. But 2020 has also shone a light on how supportive, uplifting and hardworking our community is to make sure no one is left behind in a crisis.
We urgently need more computers (desktops or laptops) for families and individuals struggling at this time. For many, this is the only way they can study, stay connected with their support services, remain employed, or seek new employment opportunities.
To help bring connection to those who need it most during the COVID-19 crisis, GIVIT has partnered with Canberra based IT company SOLVit Network Support.
The partnership will redistribute pre-loved IT equipment across the capital region to those who need it most during the COVID-19 crisis.
SOLVit is donating time to prepare these devices, clearing them of all data making them ready to go safely and securely to a new home. GIVIT is distributing all devices to trusted registered organisations across the region, to ensure devices get to the people who need them.

COVID-19 has completely changed the way some local businesses operate; by providing IT assets we can help these businesses to stay afloat in the current crisis.
SOLVit is working around the clock to restore the electronic devices, and so far, over 20 charity organisations across the region have benefited from receiving refurbished computers.
It’s easy to stay motivated when you know these refurbished devices make the difference between someone in our community being able to work, have a means for connection and students enrolled in tertiary courses being able to continue their studies.
