GIVIT helping Indigenous communities combat COVID-19 impact
When a local school in WA reached out to MP Ken Wyatt’s office for help they knew GIVIT’s Indigenous Program was the right place to turn.
GIVIT, through its National Indigenous Support Program, has been supporting schools, health programs, charities, and community services by helping them obtain the donations they need.
This WA school was in urgent need of blankets, linen and mattresses to give to families. With many Indigenous students returning home to Country to self-isolate through the COVID-19 outbreak, families were faced with the challenge of providing for additional members. The GIVIT team got straight to work and within 24 hours essentials including blankets, linen and mattresses made it onto the last truck going into the community for two weeks.
As in any disaster or emergency, GIVIT is working with federal and state governments and our Australia wide charity network to manage donations and ensure people and communities impacted by COVID-19 have access to essential items when they need them.
With negative economic impacts already being felt across the country, we’re seeing a significant increase in people needing assistance – including many that may never have found themselves in such a position before.
A united approach to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic is critical to continue supporting people and communities who’ve been impacted. GIVIT is the smart way to give, and through GIVIT we can all play an important and positive role during these challenging times.
