Give dignity in the Shoalhaven

Give dignity this winter

In recent months, Shoalhaven City Council has seen an increase in the number of people in the region seeking support through homelessness services. The area was devastated by the Black Summer Bushfires, and recovery had only just begun when the COVID-19 pandemic began. The effects of these events mean more locals than ever are facing financial and other hardship.

Shoalhaven City Council is hosting a donation drive this winter to help people in the community doing it tough. Running until Friday 15 July 2022, council is collecting essential items to create dignity packs that will be distributed to attendees at the Thrive Together Fair in August. The Thrive Together Fair is a free one-day event that connects vulnerable community members with the services and support they might need.

The list below shows exactly what's needed right now. Please donate new essential items such as non-perishable food, blankets, new socks, toiletries, sanitary products, nappies and toiletries. You can also FUND the cost of these items, providing vouchers so attendees can purchase these items for themselves.

Who you're helping

Here's some feedback from attendees of last year's Thrive Together Fair.

I felt supported, knowing all these people care" - community member

I was able to connect with a number of services who will be able to help me get back on my feet. I had a haircut, enjoyed a hote meal and picked up enough toiletries to last the year" - community member

"What a great initiative for the community to come together to help our most vulnerable people" - community service provider

The last two and half years have been particularly hard for a lot of our community. I urge you to donate generously to support those who are really doing it tough.
