GIVIT is the smart way for big-hearted RACV employees, members and customers to help people in need

RACV LOGOIt’s been a tough few years for everyone during the pandemic, but for those experiencing homelessness, the impacts have been extreme.

When people do not have a safe and secure home or live in overcrowded environments, social distancing, self-isolation, hygiene, and sanitation guidelines cannot be followed. While many of us were safe in our homes obeying lockdown restrictions, for people experiencing homelessness, this was a much more significant challenge.

In addition to the effects of COVID, thousands of Australians have had their homes damaged by floods and storms. The compounding impact of multiple natural disasters has worsened existing issues around housing availability.

In the past 12 months, GIVIT has helped 678 organisations get essential items or services to people at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Donated items like grocery vouchers, seasonal clothing, blankets, tents, and sleeping bags ensure vulnerable people are supported. Big-hearted donors like you show those doing it tough that they’re not alone and that their health and wellbeing matter. Together, let's commit to ensuring everyone has the items they need to support themselves during the upcoming colder months.

The list below shows exactly what's needed right now. The list changes as requests are filled, and new needs are identified by support organisations providing aid and relief.

St Mary’s House of Welcome in Fitzroy are urgently sourcing warm bedding for people experiencing homelessness this winter. We assist around 200 people every day that are sleeping rough or experiencing homelessness and disadvantage. We know that there are approximately 23,000 people that are currently homeless in Victoria for various reasons including a lack of affordable housing, mental illness, job loss or domestic violence. Since partnering with GIVIT we have been able to source a range of items that have helped us to serve our community, including masks, sleeping bags, clothing, vouchers and office equipment. Some of these items we simply don’t have the budget to purchase ourselves.
