GIVIT provides essential food vouchers to remote NT families in need

Your wonderful donations, including a generous donation from our friends at OzHarvest, have enabled vulnerable families living in aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory access to fresh fruit and vegetables.

The Smith* family is a large family who live in an aboriginal community outside of Katherine NT, and have endured a tragic time this year with the loss of five family members. In July the sudden, unexpected and tragic death of an uncle crippled this family emotionally and financially. After many funerals this year, the family were unsure how to come up with money for another funeral. With the support of local services advocating for the family through GIVIT, generous donations helped ease the emotional and financial burden.

Through GIVIT, the family received $400 in vouchers for the local butcher to help ease their everyday costs so their income can go towards the expenses of family funerals.

“Without your generosity, the Smith* family were not sure how they were going to lay their loved one to rest.

Thank you for making a huge difference in this family’s lives.”

Vouchers were also used to provide fruit and vegetable boxes for vulnerable families living on the outskirts of Katherine. These families were able to pick up the boxes while visiting the support service, which was extremely helpful as transport to the local grocer can be difficult for families.

“These vouchers mean that families are able to provide fresh fruit and vegetables to their little ones and family.”

"These vouchers have been so helpful for our struggling Borroloola families and are very much appreciated! Thank you so much from all us mob here at Borroloola FaFT and the families/children we support."

A support organisation located on the outskirts of Darwin is using donated Coles vouchers to create ‘baking boxes’ for families, which have all the necessary ingredients to make a range of healthy snacks.

“I just wanted to email and say a huge THANK YOU to yourself and the team at GIVIT for your kind and generous Coles voucher donations. Thanks again for all that you do!”
